Youve come up to a dilema other art students have come up to. Doing personal art where no one else understands it or aproves of it. But think of this, when you are going to be paid to make art it will be for the client, what they want. They will understand it and pay you. It doesnt matter if you dont understand it or others, all that matters is that youve been paid for it. Then you can continue working on personal art where only you understand it, where you have your own meaning. If the art you are making isnt work for someone else then you shouldnt care if others dont understand it, all that matters is that you put yourself into the art piece

Art isn't always about meaning. There are some pretty well established forms of beauty and rules that people get skilled in, like being a skilled architect, web designer, city planner. Rules, and outcomes.

In industry you are not looking to express your own ideas, but express someone else's in a way that people will understand.

There is challenge and fun in that, and nothing is a compromise. If anything, I find art that seeks to stand alone with meaning and suffers the viewer to appreciate it in such a way to be trite and pretentious.

But that is just me!

hey, ya know i have always thought the point to any form of expression is not so much for them as it is for the creator to "breathe" so-to-speak. I have concepts that i know people will not get, but i understand ,for my own benefit, a lot better what im trying to get off my chest/out of my head. Art is not so much for the masses as it is jsut for the maker of it.

People are all diffrent and we will always see thing diffrently than the next guy, and thats also part of the artistic expression, let THEM decide what they get from it. They are the rules of thier own minds, dont give them what IS supposed to be, let them run rampant and show you things you never thought of. The community nature of art is the act of bringing many minds into a single focused idea of love of understanding.

No one understands the Vedas or fully comprehends Plato, dont be so worried if people dont understand, know that they try to and know that through your work you are probably making some one who never uses his brains, use his brains. To stimulate some one to a point that they want to understand your work and try to unravel its depths is a great achievement.
